first_imgThe first edition of the Andorra Bike Race ran over three days, from 12-14 October 2018. The international stage-based mountain bike event took place on trails in Andorra, France and Spain, and forms part of the Gran Fondo World Tour (GFWT) programme of cycle tours.According to a release from GFWT, the inaugural event based in Andorra featured ‘150 participants and sold out slots for edition one’.The Andorra Bike Race is a trial designed to enable as many MTB fans as possible to enjoy the sport amidst the Pyrenean landscapes of Andorra and the surrounding regions. The MTB Village was located in Andorra la Vella’s Plaça del Poble, which also marked the start and finish line for each stage of the race.The new MTB_Gravel series event featured three stages over a total of 152km. The prologue stage was on same circuit of the UCI MTB World Cup Vallnord event, and stages 2 and 3 completed longer distances in the Pyrenees region.An ebike category event was also premiered in Andorra, with 31 participants taking on varying terrain with the same start and finish line as the main event.GFWT adds that a ‘new series will compile MTB and Gravel events around the world for the first season series in 2019.’GFWT’s management team is currently working to add more existing events, which may be interested in joining the Gran Fondo World Tour series and ‘the 40000 database to increase international participation to their event.’ Relatedlast_img
