first_img Share Sharing is caring! 335 Views   no discussions Tweet The main barracks at the Special Services Unit (SSU) of Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force is to receive an upgrade at the end of September.Minister of Justice, Immigration and National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, made the announcement during a graduation and pass out parade for thirty-eight recruits last week.Minister Blackmoore assured police officers that government will continue to provide the Force with all the support needed and improve their accommodation.“The first barracks at the Special Service Unit, the SSU has just been recently rehabilitated, [and] work will commence on the main barracks at the SSU at the end of this month. In excess of four hundred thousand dollars will be spent to rehabilitate the main barracks at Morne Bruce,” he informed.“Permit me to commend in a special way, through you, Commissioner of Police, all the officers of the SSU; you have been true heroes and thank you for your patience. The government by law is mandated to provide proper accommodation for the police,” Minister Blackmoore added.Meanwhile, forty more recruits are expected to commence training this year to complement the Police Force’s staff.Currently, according to Minister Blackmoore, the Police Force’s staff compliment stands at five hundred and one (501) but its “actual strength” is four hundred and eighty (480) including the newly joined recruits and fifty- three (53) special constables engaged on a full time basis.“I want to say further that before year end, the establishment of the police force will be increased from five hundred and one to five hundred and thirty and in that regard training of an additional forty new police recruits will commence this year.
