first_img Share PM Skerrit shakes hands with Counselor WANG (GIS photo)The Government of Dominica has received grant aid from the Government of People’s Republic of China, to the tune of US$16M.The announcement came on Friday January 30th, 2015, when the Hon. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who is also Minister for Finance, met with Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, WANG Zhaofeng.The two signed an economic and technical cooperation agreement between the two countries for a number of projects to be agreed upon by the two countries in the coming weeks.“We are very glad to see that over the past 10 years based on the principle of mutual respect, equality and friendly benefit, the friendly cooperation between our two countries has made fruitful achievements and brought tangible benefits to our two countries and our two peoples,” said WANG Zhaofeng, Counsellor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.The Hon. Prime Minister said Dominica will continue to regard china’s One China Policy.“We have always been able to rely on the commitment of Chinese support to Dominica; not only on bilateral relations but on multilateral issues.”He addressed Counselor WANG, “Excellency, please convey to your Government our gratitude because notwithstanding the fact that you are the second largest economy in the world, you too have your own challenges.”The Prime Minister said, “China has poverty and there are infrastructural challenges in many provinces but because of the friendship which exists and because China sees itself as having a role to play in the economic and social development of countries like Dominica.
